These are articles that we specifically want written. In this case, we'll usually describe the article in some detail, listing specific requirements. For example, we might request "a 5-page report and summary of the recent Magic World Championships, focusing on the performance of the UAE National Team." Alternately, we might want "a list and analysis of widely-used and popular house rules for the BattleTech board game."  The current list of solicited articles can always be found here.

To qualify for writing an article, you must let us know that you're interested in writing it. The easiest way to do this is to click the "Available" link in the Status column to send us an email.  We'll review your writing record, both at GamesNet and at other sites (references or links to other published material would be nice, but are not necessary). Based on the responses we receive, we'll select one person to write the article. Then we'll assign a deadline to complete the article and mark the article "Taken" on our site to indicate that someone is writing it.

We'll usually specify compensation on a per-article basis, and you'll have a limited time period to complete the article (usually between two weeks to one month). Ordinarily, both the compensation and the deadline can be negotiated; however, we might limit one or both for specific articles.

If we accept your offer to write an article, you're essentially entering into a contract with us.  If you can't complete the article on time, or if the quality of the article is below our standards, then you could be violating this contract.  As a result, we may not be able to pay you the full amount agreed upon, or we may assign the article to someone else and refuse your submission.  Therefore, it's important to keep an eye on the deadline and make sure you submit a well-written article on time.  Also, be sure to read the section on copyrights and ownership below before you submit your article.

All material submitted for compensation must be original and unpublished.  See Copyrights and Ownership for more details.

Having said that, if you see a solicited article you'd love to write, go ahead and write it even if it's already marked as "Taken." Chances are we'll accept it anyway as an Unsolicited Article (see below).
